  I only came here because I had recently gotten dental insurance and this was the closest place that accepted it. I regularly get my teeth cleaned, brush and floss daily. They would not allow me to schedule a cleaning without first doing the new patient protocol. This included about 15 x-rays, a measuring of gums (which my regular dentist did about 2 years ago and there was little to no change from his measurements to these), and a consultation with the dentist. I had called prior to arriving because I had requested a same day cleaning at scheduling and was informed that they could not do that and even when I asked to change to a different day so the cleaning could be done I was told they could not guarantee it could be done. The hygeniest told me I would need a gingivitis cleaning. This would mean coming in and having my teeth cleaned and a special antibacterial process for the gums. Then I would need to come back to have them polished! I told her, now the 3rd person i have explained to, that I just need my teeth cleaned. The dentist was very nice and didn't good job. I had one sensitive tooth and he said to try ibuprofen for 4-5 days and if it doesn't go away we could discuss the next step which would be a steroid pack to knock out the inflammation. The office manager came in after about 10-15 minutes and in her office she explained that I needed the gingivitis cleaning and my insurance wouldn't cover that. Of course I wasn't surprised! This whole thing has been a huge waste of my entire afternoon. The gingivitis cleaning was to cost $192 and my insurance would cover the 2nd visit. Ok great, now it's going to take me 3 visits to get my teeth cleaned. I told her I was not going to schedule that and left. On my way home I called my regular dentist of 10 years and scheduled a cleaning and it will be less without insurance than Aspen. Absolutely terrible business practice. I won't be going back and cancelling the insurance too.

  I came to Aspen Dental because I had a bad experience with another dentist office saying they accepted my insurance, then billing me the full amount anyway because the receptionist/billing specialist made a mistake. I explained this to the dentist, and he assured me this would not happen at Aspen Dental. He claimed they bill you before any procedures are done, that way you know exactly how much you are paying and are not stuck with any surprise bills. Just to be certain, I asked for a predetermination with the office manager so I knew exactly how much of the bill I was responsible for. The actual procedure went very well. They explained to me where, why, and how they were doing the procedure, and it was relatively painless. Then, the bills started showing up. I received three separate bills, which was confusing because I had asked for a predetermination. I called when I received the first bill, and the office manager said they would write it off. After the next bills, I called and asked why I was getting additional bills after I had already paid what the predetermination said I would pay. I was informed that "we do in-house predeterminations because a predetermination with your insurer takes a lot of time." I asked to speak with the office manager and told her that was not what the dentist told me before I received treatment. She specifically told me to disregard the next bill. She said she would look into it and call me back to straighten everything out. I never got a call back and I got a collection notice in the mail for the last bill. I have tried to pay this off, but the phone number and website listed in the notice do not work! I am very disappointed in how they handled this and I would NOT RECOMMEND Aspen Dental to anyone who wants transparency with billing and insurance.
